Natural Awakenings Atlanta

Wilderness Series, Halloween Hikes and Canoe Trips at Chattahoochee

Fall is the perfect time to step into a canoe and enjoy paddling down the river watching the changing colors of the leaves. Chattahoochee Nature Center’s (CNC) last canoe trips of the season will be held at 4:30 p.m., October 4, 5, 11 and 12. A special Women’s Only Paddle will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., October 11.

On October 12, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 with the Wilderness Act Performance Series, organized by Atlanta composer Stephen Wood. The series features photographers, poets, and composers that have gathered inspiration for their work directly from CNC experiences in the forests, wetlands and rivers.

CNC hosts their popular Halloween Hikes on October 17 and 18, where visitors will meet colorfully costumed woodland creatures performing dramatic antics on the trails. Kids can create fun crafts, have their face painted with a wild Halloween design and enjoy lively musical entertainment, s’mores and hot cocoa around the campfire.
