Atlanta African Dance and Drum Festival

The eighth annual Atlanta African Dance and Drum Festival will be held from July 29 through 31 at the Adamsville Recreation Center, featuring a diverse range of music and movement workshops, an African-inspired craft market, food vendors, Kid’s Camp and finale concert at 8 p.m., July 30 at the Baldwin Burroughs Theatre at Spelman College.

The premiere African dance and drum festival in the region, The Atlanta Dance and Drum Festival teaches a lineup of dances from West Africa, Cuba, Haiti and more. Founder Ayietoro Kemet says, “While Atlanta is home to many talented African dance companies and weekly classes around town, there was no one festival happening in the city that brought instructors from all over the nation and abroad to Atlanta for an intensive, immersive African dance and drum experience.”

The Kids Camp offers four, 90-minute African Dance and Drum sessions for potty-trained children from 4 to 6 years old. The finale concert features Ayodele African Dance & Drum from Chicago, Nkiruka from New Orleans, Drew Charter School Dance from Atlanta and the Atlanta African Dance & Drum Community Collective.
