Concrete Jungle Donates Tons of Fruit to Charity

Concrete Jungle, Atlanta’s all-volunteer fruit foraging organization, has donated more than 10, 000 pounds of fruit to homeless shelters, food banks and youth orphanages since its founding in 2009. The organization receives almost all its food from the hundreds of fruit and nut trees growing in the Atlanta area in parks, yards, roadsides and other public spaces.

An essential part of Atlanta’s growing food movement, Concrete Jungle fills a niche by rescuing fruit that would otherwise go to waste. The organization has mapped more than 1,000 trees, operates a small urban farm, and in 2013 will plant orchards in Atlanta’s food desert neighborhoods, places that have limited access to affordable and nutritious foods.
