Fall is festival season in Atlanta and prime time to enjoy the ingenuity and cultural creativity of our city. Here’s a sampling of events to take in, though you might just have to be a superhero to attend them all.

October Events

LakeFest – Oct 1-2. A uniquely quirky and fun festival featuring art, music, poetry, food and family friendly activities. Dogs welcome. Free. Lake Shore Dr, Pine Lake. (

Maker Faire Atlanta – Oct 1-2. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue to for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects. Downtown Decatur. (

Wire & Wood Alpharetta Songwriters Festival – Oct 7-8. Nationally recognized and upcoming local singer-songwriters gather to perform original songs & share stories about what inspires their music. Alpharetta. Friday/Free. Saturday: $35/advance; $40/gate. (

Chalktoberfest – Oct 8-9. Enjoy a weekend of chalk art, craft beer, entertainment and family fun. Marietta Square, 4 Depot St NE, Marietta. (

Oakhurst Porchfest – Oct 8. 12-6pm. A grassroots community music festival where front porches become stages, yards become venues, and radical generosity and good will rule the day. Oakhurst neighborhood, Decatur. (

The Natural Mystic Fair – Oct 15. 12-6pm. An experience to live for. Mental, physical, spiritual practitioners will be there to serve you. Free admission. Tassili’s Raw Reality Café, 1059 Ralph D Abernathy Blvd SW, Atlanta. (

Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival – Oct 21-22. Two nights of trick-or-treating, tethered balloon rides, costumes, live entertainment and festivities. Advance: $12/adult, $5/child. After Oct: 14, $14/adult, $8/child. Kennesaw State, Sports & Entertainment Park, 3200 George Busbee Pkwy, Kennesaw. (

Alive! Festival – Oct 22. 10am-6pm. Green living eco-festival benefiting Project Green’s back to basics summer camp for kids. Artists, eco-friendly vendors and family fun. Free. Suwanee Town Center Park, 330 Town Center Av, Suwanee. (

Atlanta Streets Alive – Oct 23. 2-6pm. Enjoy biking, skating, walking and rolling down the streets and take part in this fun, free, family-friendly event. Peachtree St from Edgewood to 17th St. (

Boxerstock 2016 Music Festival & Dog Park – Oct 23. 11-6pm. Chocked full of great music, food, kids village, silent auction and off-leash dog park. All proceeds benefit Atlanta Boxer Rescue. Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta. (

The Veggie Connection – Oct 29. 10am-4pm. Family-friendly event featuring vegetarian/vegan specialty foods, eco-friendly products, cruelty-free fashion, newly published books, inspirational art pieces, cooking demos and speakers. Smyrna Community Center, 200 Village Green Cir, Smyrna. (

November Events

Chomp & Stomp – Nov 7. 11am-6pm. Features old-time music, 5k run, chili cook-off, artist market and more. Cabbagetown Park, 177 Kirkwood Ave, Atlanta. (

Atlanta Veg Fest 2016 – Nov 12. 10am-6pm. A day of engaging speakers, delicious food, a vendor marketplace and fun for all ages. Cobb County Civic Center, 548 S Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta. (
