Massage Heights Decatur is the newest Atlanta location of the San Antonio-based franchisor. Co-owners Joonas and Kasey Kohtala, husband and wife, held their grand opening in late April at 2570 Blackmon Drive, Suite 340, Decatur.

The Decatur location is the eighth Massage Heights location in the metro area. Fundamental to the company’s business model is membership. There are four levels to choose from starting at $59.99 a month. At that level, a member receives one 60-minute massage with aromatherapy each month. After the first massage, subsequent massages in the same month are half price.

“Our approach is to encourage massage as a healthy lifestyle choice, like working out,” says Kasey, 37, who was a longtime member of the Brookhaven location. She likes to get at least two massages a month, and stresses that massage reduces pain and stress, increases flexibility and strengthens the immune system.

“I just feel healthier,” says Joonas, 30, who used to get a massage only once a year. “I hadn’t understood the need to add it [to] my lifestyle.”

The relative newlyweds—the couple have been married for about a year—emphasize that Massage Heights is focused on making massage an affordable lifestyle choice while providing an upscale experience. Each location is called a “retreat,” and the Kohtalas’ retreat features eight therapy rooms, each with adjustable, heated massage tables.
