Second Helpings Atlanta, Inc. (SHA), a nonprofit food rescue organization in Atlanta, will receive a year’s worth of free advertising in Natural Awakenings of Atlanta.

Each year, the magazine selects one nonprofit or local government program to receive a donation of 12 monthly quarter-page ads—at no charge. To qualify, the organization must meet certain criteria, including status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit or local government entity and a mission that responds to the needs of the community in areas relevant to the interests of the magazine’s readers, such as natural health, sustainability, personal evolution and community service.

“We feed people, not landfills,” says President Sheri Labovitz. “We fight hunger by providing fresh, nutritious food to those who need it, by providing meaningful volunteer experiences and opportunities and by promoting sustainability.”

Second Helpings organizes a team of nearly 400 volunteer drivers, and it links a network of more than 70 food donors—including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, The Davis Academy and Cox Enterprises—and a network of more than 45 partner Agencies—including the Community Assistance Center, the Atlanta Mission and Toco Hills Community Alliance—to provide food assistance and other services.

Its “90-minute model” allows a volunteer to spend only 90 minutes or less picking up food that might otherwise be thrown away and delivering it to a partner agency that distributes food to people in need.
