Natural Awakenings Atlanta

New Nonprofit to Promote, Spread EFT

Four Atlanta therapists are forming Tap Into Community, a nonprofit dedicated to making the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)—a.k.a. “tapping”—more widely available.

Tap Into Community is the brainchild of Melissa Olson, LCSW. “I want to make it [tapping] available to people who can’t afford regular therapy but who can benefit tremendously from tapping,” she says.

EFT involves using one’s fingers to repeatedly tap acupuncture points in order to address emotional issues such as anxiety, phobias and trauma. Olson says research demonstrates that tapping is “actually a trauma-resolution method, not just a coping method.”

“I want to be able to provide materials and short workshops so that a nonlicensed person can come to a workshop and be able to share tapping with their church group, or their dad who’s in hospice or women in a shelter somewhere,” says Olson. A secondary goal is to create a community of tapping enthusiasts throughout the Southeast.

Olson says the great success her clients have experienced with tapping is motivating her to share the technique: “It has really transformed my practice. The results are undeniable. We are able to process things in one session sometimes that would normally have [needed] weeks or months of talk processing.”

The organization’s three other founding board members are Stacey Cohen, LPC, Matt Wagner, LPC and Mitsuko Ito, LMT. The four will host a meet-and-greet March 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Olson’s office at 621 North Ave, NE, Building E.

Olson says that their website at TapIntoCommunity.org should be live by March 1.
