Fall is festival season in Atlanta and prime time to enjoy the ingenuity and cultural creativity of our city. Here’s a sampling of events to take in, though you might just have to be a superhero to attend them all.

October Events

LakeFest – Oct 1-2. A uniquely quirky and fun festival featuring art, music, poetry, food and family friendly activities. Dogs welcome. Free. Lake Shore Dr, Pine Lake. (PineLakeFest.com)

Maker Faire Atlanta – Oct 1-2. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue to for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects. Downtown Decatur. (Atlanta.MakerFaire.com)

Wire & Wood Alpharetta Songwriters Festival – Oct 7-8. Nationally recognized and upcoming local singer-songwriters gather to perform original songs & share stories about what inspires their music. Alpharetta. Friday/Free. Saturday: $35/advance; $40/gate. (WireAndWoodAlpharetta.com)

Oakhurst Porchfest – Oct 8. 12-6pm. A grassroots community music festival where front porches become stages, yards become venues, and radical generosity and good will rule the day. Oakhurst neighborhood, Decatur. (OakhurstPorchfest.org)

Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival – Oct 21-22. Two nights of trick-or-treating, tethered balloon rides, costumes, live entertainment and festivities. Advance: $12/adult, $5/child. The Veggie Connection – Oct 29. 10am-4pm. Family-friendly event featuring vegetarian/vegan specialty foods, eco-friendly products, cruelty-free fashion, newly published books, inspirational art pieces, cooking demos and speakers. November Events
