Natural Awakenings Atlanta

Dancing Dogs Yoga’s New Beltline Home

Dancing Dogs Yoga has relocated to its long-planned home on the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Beltline.

The brand-new 2,000-square foot facility, at 661 Auburn Ave. NE #100 in SPX Alley, houses one studio, a small retail space and shower facilities.

The studio opened in early April, and its founder and owner Shelley Lowther signed the lease in 2016, but multiple delays pushed back the buildout.

Although the mix of offerings has not changed, the number of classes has. Given Dancing Dogs’ newly acquired visual prominence—it’s visible from the Beltline—Lowther increased the number of classes by about 20 before trimming the schedule for the slower summer months.

Speaking of summer, Dancing Dogs’ is taking $10 off the monthly cost of a 12-month, unlimited-classes membership: From now through August, the price is $98/month instead of $108/month. As always, new students can access 30 days of unlimited yoga for $49.

Lowther, who opened her first studio in Buford, South Carolina, in 2010, moved back to Atlanta in 2016 but stopped in Savannah along the way and planted another Dancing Dogs studio in that city.

The Beltline brought her back. When she lived here in the ’90s, Lowther perceived Atlanta as one big traffic jam. With the Beltline becoming a vital means of commuting, Lowther is enjoying “being part of an active lifestyle.”

“We have this beautiful, bright open space on the Beltline,” she says. “You can practice, take a shower and then soak in everything that the Eastside Beltline offers.”
