Community Celebrates the Life of Yolanda Owens

Friends, family, colleagues, and others will celebrate the life and legacy of Yolanda Owens on Saturday, April 29, at Oyun Botanical Gardens. The celebration is free and open to the public. The time of the event is to be determined.

“Skincare chef” and founder of iwi fresh, Owens was inspired by her grandmother to create garden-fresh skincare. The company, a natural skincare line and full-service day spa, is considered by many to be a pillar of the community. Owens made a difference to many, as youth, business owners and others were encouraged and influenced by her business and lively personality.

“The experience comes full circle and is a true example of the community network Yolanda cultivated,” says Shantaé Robinson, Director of Strategy, Planning & Engagement at iwi fresh. The celebration is to be held at Oyun Botanical Gardens, which is situated on land previously owned and operated by Shambaa Farms and Truly Living Well farms. When she started iwi fresh, Owens had used the land to source fresh crops to create skincare. Oyun Botanical Gardens’ owner and operator, Queen Yennenga, has since purchased the land and has hosted several events at iwi fresh. And Ras Kofi, who had farmed and managed Shambaa Farms, collaborated with iwi fresh on a few occasions.

The celebration will be held at Oyun Botanical Gardens, 3353 Washington Road in East Point. For more information, visit www.iwifresh.com.
